BIOGRAPHY

F or many years, Steve Yates has been the ‘go-to guy’ for the greater Chicagoland musical community. Steve has hosted some of the finest musical talent in his recording studio of 40+ years, sharpening his recording and production skills as an engineer. His dedication to customer satisfaction and ability to work with artists and producers is well known amongst the community. As a compliment, musicians will often say someone has “big ears”- meaning that someone is a perceptive and acute listener that can make sense of complex music, improvisations, multiple rhythms, and lines, etc. This is a compliment often afforded to Steve because of his experience and understanding of sound and composition.

Now, in the first quarter of the 21st Century, in addition to those skills, Steve has proven himself as a master cinematographer/director/editor capturing the images of artists and a variety of participants in action to go along with their creative output.

Some things can only be developed over time. Institutional knowledge and experience can only occur through years of participating in projects with a wide range of subjects, environments and expectations. Steve and his team have proven their ability to handle any size project including two recent shows he filmed, recorded, edited and produced for PBS. Both to great acclaim.

This has been the ever-evolving lifework of Steve Yates for many, many years. More so, Steve is a trusted partner to the many producers and content creators he has worked with because he adds value to every project in ways that go far beyond what is often asked of him and his team. Every project starts out by carefully assessing the individual needs of a given project. Exceeding expectations is always the outcome.
